Week Seven Blogs

Blog 4: 2-27-07 I am finding it difficult to wrap my head around the "Definition" assignment for this week. It is giving me a headache just thinking about the number of issues that are on the 120+ pages of our wiki are making my head spin. Truth, war, peace, love, bunnies, controversy, morality, foreign lands, art, philosophy, ethics, copyright infringement, piracy, guilty pleasures....and the myriad of other topics...it is overwhelming. And, I have to chose three. Geez.

Blog 3: 2-25-07 I have posted my final narrative. I decided to use a bit of creative liberty, my prose, my new computer and utube to finish it. Click on the link below to check it out. I am very happy with the results. I combined my narrative, my photography and some digital effects to tell the story. My thanks to those of you who chose to remix for me. I appreciate your inspiration.

Blog 2: 2-23-07 I am hoping that I will have ample time at some point today to rework my narrative. I am looking forward to reviewing (again) the remixxes that have been posted as I use them to rework it. But, despite my enthusiasm for rewriting my piece, I am finding myself very distracted by a number of issues that I continue to struggle with as a "non-traditional student" here at USF. It becomes especially difficult for me, at times, to have to deal with sophomoric attitudes that seem to abound in regard to classwork.

Perhaps I am a bit "too serious" at times, but it is because I have a very deep devotion to anything I am pursuing - especially my studies. As a pre-service educator (and the mother of two college-aged students) I feel it is my obligation to be the best student I can be. That is why I have taken my studies very seriously since I entered university to attain my degree in education in 2003. As a result, I was in the top 1% of my class at PBCC in Palm Beach County when I graduated last year and both my daughters had the opportunity to realize with undeniable certainty that I don't ask anyone to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.

With that said, perhaps if I take things "too seriously" at times, other students will have a better understanding for why. Becoming an educator is my full time job at the present time. It is not a hobby, nor is it a game. For me, at this point in MY life, my education is the fulfillment of a dead serious life-long pursuit. So, if at times, I am perceived as being "too serious" - that's perfectly fine with me.

Blog 1: 2-22-07 I am spending time today to reorganize my wiki space, providing links to each week and attaching my blogs separately as well as links to my assignments, prompts etc. I am also starting to formulate my final narrative as well as my final project.

On a side note - I have been reading a very interesting book about becoming a better writer. I would recommend it highly to anyone who has trouble freeing themselves from the bonds of academic or business writing. It provides a number of insights that have been helpful to me including how to practice the art of writing and use words effectively without losing my sense of creativity and style. The book is: "Writing Brave and Free" by Ted Kooser and Steve Cox. If you are interested, let me know. I'm reading it a bit at a time and usually have it with me.
