Blog 1: 3-22-07 I think, even though the presentation of Danielou was a bit truncated as a result (props to Meagan and Steven for a wonderful job!) yesterday's seminar was a good expression of who we are as a group. Diverse, smart people who are willing to jump into the "washing machine" and get a little dirty. After all, there is really no point in sitting on the sidelines when the game is fun and everyone gets the chance to play . (Pardon the metaphor - I couldn't resist.) But seriously, I think that Trey has provided us with a very unique opportunity to experiment with, not only our writing, but technologies as well. Not only that, but they are technologies that many of us might not have been exposed to. I for one, appreciate the chances we've had the opportunity to take to learn to think outside the box. As an educator, being able to do that is invaluable to me and having the opportunity - in an environment (college) where the box (bureaucracy) is everything is an amazing chance to enhance my abilities to be the best educator I can be. Interestingly enough, as an education major, although many of the classes employ creative student-centered instruction, there is actually more bureaucracy to deal with because it is a major that is regulated by the state and federal government in addition to the college itself. It is very frustrating at times and is becoming very clear why so many people drop out before they attain their teaching degrees. With every state in the country needing more teachers and thousands of people who want to teach entering college every year you would think it is a perfect match. Unfortunately, the road to becoming one has been made so difficult to traverse by the academic bureaucracy many of them pursue other majors or simply drop out of higher education all together. It is an interesting paradox.
Blog 2: 3-23-07 With all the projects and assessments for all my classes starting to heat up I am beginning to feel the end of the semester crash looming. You know - that point at which you feel a sense of helplessness and impending doom...but, I am attempting to stay focused, tackle one thing at a time, remain confident that I can complete everything and just get 'r done. With that in mind, I have created a page for my audience finder on the wiki (see the link above) and wish to acknowledge both Brian (who's blah, blah, blah blog inspired me) and Hend who mentioned in the last seminar that she wanted to create an image for her final project just as I was jotting down the words that evoked them from the seminar itself. So, in an homage to Brian and with thoughts of being able to share how to develop them with Hend, I have created my page. Check it out when you have a minute...it is unfolding at present, but I hope eventually it will be really interesting.
Blog 3&4: 3-28-07 My blog process is truncated this week due to illness and lack of sleep. I am going to try to make it to the seminar this afternoon but if I am unable to - my apologies to those that are presenting our texts. I will, if I am unable to be there, hope to get the low down from my group three members.
