Rocking Out with Steven

Who would have thought the sharp-tongued kid making all of the smart-ass remarks in the back of the class possessed such musical talents? Could it be that beneath the cool exterior of the cynic lies the beating heart of a poet?

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine...

The gutters around the video clip are intriguing. It appears as though he was alone when he recorded the song. What time was it? Was it late at night? What compelled him to turn on the camera? Was he lonely? Inspired? Lovelorn? All three?

Creation is a mysterious and awesome force, and I probably should not examine it too closely. But I cannot help but wonder what internal fire compelled him to pick up the guitar, set the camera on some unseen makeshift tripod, and press record.

Do you remember when

We couldn't put it away?

Do you remember when

We couldn't put it away?

Do you remember what the music meant?

(To you?) (To me?) (To you?) (To me?)

Do you remember what the music meant?

Life's complications and frustrations

They disappear when the music starts playing

I found a place where it feels alright

I heard a record and it opened my eyes

Do you remember when we couldn't put it away?

Do you remember what the music meant?

And nothing else matters

When I turn it up loud

There was the one definitive moment

Well, did it mean it to you?

There was that one definitive moment

When it was something new

Life's complications and frustrations

They disappear when the music starts playing

I found a place where it feels alright

I heard a record and it opened my eyes

Did it mean it to you?

Do you remember when

We couldn't put away?

Do you remember when

We couldn't put it away?

Do you remember what the music meant?

And nothing else matters

Yeah nothing else matters

When I turn it up loud

Yeah nothing else matters

When I turn it up loud
