Crystal's Orginal Work
Poetry can be traced back farther
Trace it back as far as you can
Beowulf and the Anglo-Saxons
I start here
Because that is where I know to begin
Oral to written
Lost in translation
Begin by writing down our verbal patterns
See the rhythms
Notice the patterns
Watch it all connect
wæs se grimma gæst Grendel haten
Read it
Immerse yourself
Cheer Beowulf; Damn Grendel
Applaud Grendel; Hate Beowulf
Understand they are the same
Understand that they are a dyad
Listen and see the Celtic knot work that the poet weaves
Song and story now sounded together
as Hrothgar's bard declaimed over benches
a tale often told when hard was held
This is the beginning
The orature proceeding the literature
My remix
It is possible to trace Poetry back to the beginning of written history and farther. I will start my exploration of poetry with Beowulf and the Anglo-Saxons because this is where my knowledge of the subject begins. Poetry started out as oral form of entertainment, memorized and passed down from generation to generation. When the poetry was finally written down some of its history got lost in the translations.
Poetry begins by writing down our verbal patterns and turning them into rhythms. The rhythms then turn into noticeable patterns which all connect into a bigger web. wæs se grimma gæst Grendel haten is a great poem, read it, immerse yourself in it. Cheer Beowulf, Damn Grendel, Applaud Grendel and Hate Beowulf they are the same and they are dyad. If you listen carefully the words of a poem can produce visual images; the poet can weave Celtic knots with their words. In a poem a story can take the form of song as Hrothgar's bard declaimed over benches told a tale in his poems. In the beginning of poetry the orature value proceeded the literature.
I'm not sure how well I did toward the end of it, I don't know these poets so I'm not sure how well I represented their works or your ideas.
