Ramblings on my purpose, pattern, and process.
About six years ago I confronted the fact that my life had become empty, meaningless, and frequently painful. I had to take a realistic look at myself and admit that I was the cause of my problems. That I could not hope to change my situation with the same attitudes and beliefs that had created my situation. By becoming more honest, open minded, and willing in developing a new way of approaching life I was blessed with a profound change in outlook.
This change in perspective included a shift in values as to what is important to me. I was given a newfound appreciation for my life and a desire to seek my greatest fulfillment. I am not sure where that fulfillment will lead me, but strongly felt that it began by furthering my education. So I began attending St. Petersburg College to earn an associates degree. I found that I still possessed an academic talent that I had known as a younger man. Most importantly, I rediscovered an enthusiasm for life and a passion for learning. I desire to ascertain whether there is a purpose for my existence beyond the day to day striving for financial and emotional security and how I can go about discovering this purpose.
There have been many who have inspired me along the way. One of my favorite is Henry David Thoreau. I will use a quotation from him to best summarize my purpose, pattern, and process. “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” I believe it is important to note that not only have I been inspired by Mr. Thoreau, but by acting on that inspiration I have found that indeed as I changed the way I looked at my universe, my universe changed.
